The Green House

The Green House was exactly that, a greenhouse. But, it does also have another meaning as the majority of things in the tiny house have been upcycled, recycled or reused. The items such as the kitchen and the new toilet and sink have been sourced from local suppliers or from no more than a twenty-mile radius. We have seriously considered our carbon footprint in the creation of this lovely inviting dwelling.

 

The conservatory was used for growing plants and seeds and sometimes for painting furniture and the bedroom was originally a fully working darkroom for the previous owner who was a well known local photographer. Kim and Karoline already run a very successful bed and breakfast from the main farmhouse.

 

At the start of lockdown, we decided that we had to do something positive and useful with the things we already had. The bed and breakfast had come to a grinding halt and we felt that when we were able to re-open that people may not be comfortable staying in someone else's house. It became quite obvious quite quickly that the ideal solution would be to make the office and greenhouse into a self-contained holiday cottage. Karoline had to pack up her office and set it out in the attic of the main house.

 

To cut a long story short we already knew how we wanted to set out the interior so we asked a local architect to draw up plans. We applied for planning permission and got the thumbs up. We then approached a local builder (he actually lives a the end of the road) and at the beginning of July 2020 work started. We had to dig around in the barn to find what items we already owned that we could use again. We surprised ourselves with all that we found and many of these things, some from our travels around the world have been re-used and are now happily situated in their new surroundings – The Green House.

 

We have seriously considered our carbon footprint during its creation.

 

You will have the tiny house to yourself. It has its own entrance and garden with a patio to sit out on. It is very private from the main house...
